TOPEKA, KS — League of Women Voters of Kansas President Martha Pint issued the following statement in response to the Kansas Supreme Court's decision to review a lower-court ruling in League of Women Voters v. Schwab. The court will hear arguments about the portion of the lawsuit that relates to ballot collection and signature matching.
“For two years, the League of Women Voters of Kansas has halted our core work of voter assistance because our state law targets voter assistance organizations with criminal penalties. LWV and our partners have known all along that this law hurts Kansans, and we are eager for the Supreme Court to hear our arguments. Voter assistance is not illegal, and community-based groups like the League are vital links between Kansans and the election process. We hope the Supreme Court will see this law for what it is: an attack on the voting rights of Kansans.”
